It only took a second…

Over the past few months I have enjoyed meeting some extraordinary people. One would argue these individuals are “top performers” in their line of work or leaders within their area of expertise. A few of these men and women would be defined as “stars” within our society, achieving much more than the average person.

Being curious as I am and wanting to understand what it is about these folks that makes them realize success, I began to observe and ask questions. What I learned should’t shock any of us, but bring to mind some simple facts about who we are and what we can accomplish.

We are all part of the same family (the human family) with each of us sharing nearly the exact set of dreams and fears. Each of us are born with a light of desire which is found deep within our souls. This burning inside is only confined by our learned apprehension toward life and is wanting to burst on the scene at any moment. As our brilliance is released it is expressed with excitement and exposes our richest talents. Our willingness to manifest ourselves validates that it is okay for others to do the same.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.”

Let me validate his words and add our “bravery” may need only mere seconds. We all know people with great voices and enjoy listening to them sing. Those who are “brave” enough to sing for us do so with a moment of fear presented each they perform. The difference between those who are expressing themselves through song and others (with as good or better voices) who sit silently on the sideline is plainly “taking the chance.”

Think of those times in your life when you were willing to move past your fears finding “it wasn’t that bad.” If fact, I bet you found the outcome to be far greater than you had hoped. The next time, while fear presented itself, you moved through it and validated again, “boy, it wasn’t as hard as I anticipated.”

What did I observe these super stars doing differently? Simply one little thing, standing up and saying yes, I can or I will. I found all these people are no different from you and I. They are very normal and have exactly the same dreams and fears. Do you want to be the person represented by the light shinning within your soul? The person others only dream about? When opportunity knocks; answer the door!
